Eliminations - Sunday

With the first pair of Top Fuel cars sitting behind the water box the show was started with the traditional push start and run by Red Greth in his historic Speed Sport roadster aka 'Ol Noisy. Steve Gibbs is the pusher.

After making the turn Red is greeted by none other than NHRA Big Show starter (and ex '60s fuel dragster driver) Rick Stewart who had a ball doing an old time flag start.

Rick waives to Red as he motors by. I don't this any of the "Big Show" players who came to this years CHRR had more fun than Stewart.

Round One - Top Fuel

11:05 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.95 inches.

It's showtime! First pair out was # 5 qualifier Troy Green and # 13 Shannon Stewart.

Green got a slight starting line advantage.

While eating the engine up, Stewart caught Green and won the race by 14 feet. His 5.894 at 228.89 to a good but losing 5.957 at 246.30. This was simply a case of under estimating the competition.

As driver Troy Green said after seeing this shot and the tire distortion, "Scary!".

A dejected Troy Green comes to a stop knowing his championship points hopes and in fact, the 2007 season are over.

After a short clean up in the right lane the next pair out was the # 1 car of Brad Thompson and the # 16 qualifier, Rick Rogers.

Rogers got a huge hunk on the starting line (0.042 to Brad's 0.101).

Thompson caught and passed Rogers before half track but Rick didn't give up.

Try as he did, Rogers' 6.110 at 238.28 couldn't better Thompson' s 5.902 at 212.96.

And the hits just kept on coming. Next pair Jim Murphy and Mike McClennan.

Both cars left together but Murphy pulled ahead at every marker.

At the stripe it was all Murphy who moved to round two with a 5.878 at 240.06. By the 1200' mark McClennan called it quits clicking it to a losing 6.163 at 212.56.

Out of the waterbox and onto the track - Adam Sorokin and Howard Haight.

Haight was out first but it didn't take long for Sorokin to reel him in.

Shutting off early Sorokin really unloaded a number - 5.761 231.95.

Haight's 6.181 at 196.93 was not only a loser but costly as well.

This would be as good a time as any to give credit where credit is more than due. Don Irvin, his Safety Safari and the Famoso crew had a brutal weekend and this clean up of Haight's oil down is just an example of what they had to deal with.

After an extensive clean up, out rolled Brett Harris and Jason Richey.

Harris .023 in the bank at the hit but it would prove to be insufficient funds.

What we had here was upset number two. Richey was second at the hit but Harris fell well off the pace he set in qualifying with a 6.025 at 237.21. Richey picked up a nickel and clocked a 5.880 at 249.93. Harris was sent packing to Kaysville. This also gave Richey lane choice against Stewart in round two.

Next out it was Chevy vs. Hemi with Scott Mason and Pete Kaiser.

Kaiser got a blink jump and we had a good drag race in the making.

At the strip it was Kaiser with the slimmest of wins besting Mason 5.928 at 248.68 to 5.967 at 240.70.

The next pair was the last Harris standing (Jack) and Denver Schutz.

Schutz opened up a .090 lead at the hit and never looked back.

As Schutz motored on to a 5.884 at 251.67, Harris called it quits with a 6.137 at 171.26.

After the first round Brendan Murry and Mendy Fry came out to make side-by-side test runs.

We don't have the times but Fry was on a much better pass than the car made in qualifying.

Murry's test was an expensive one with this huge blower explosion going into the traps. Fortunately this one didn't erupt into a huge ball of flames ala Columbus.
